Dr. Asif Khan awarded the 2015 Governor's Award for Excellence in Scientific Research
March 25, 2015 - Lieutenant Governor Henry McMaster presented the 2015 Governor's Awards for Excellence in Science to the University of South Carolina, Furman University and the Medical University of South Carolina. The Governor's Awards for Excellence in Science, administered by South Carolina Academy of Science (SCAS), are among the highest science honors in our state.
Dr. Asif Khan was honored with the 2015 Governor's Award for Excellence in Scientific Research. The Governor's Awards for Science program was developed to honor an individual or team within the state whose achievements and contributions to science in South Carolina merit special recognition and to promote wider awareness of the quality and extent of scientific activity in South Carolina.
Dr. Khan is known worldwide as a pioneer in the area of Gallium Nitride (GaN) Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and Power Electronics Devices. His work contributed to development of an entirely new multi-billion dollar industry that influences all of our lives. Dr. Khan is currently a Carolina Distinguished Professor and is the Director and Founder of the Photonics & Microelectronics Laboratory at USC.
